    • Pumping iron at 70: Long-term benefits of heavy resistance training in older adults

      • In this randomized controlled trial, heavy resistance training for just 1 year maintained muscle strength and lean body mass in older adults over the subsequent 3 years, whereas moderate-intensity training and no training did not.
    • Taurine for cardiovascular health

      • In this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials, supplementing with taurine improved measures of cardiovascular health, including blood pressure and left ventricular ejection fraction.
    • Does getting less sleep make sugar more appealing?

      • In this systematic review of experimental and observational studies, short sleep duration was associated with an increased preference for sweeter taste, but not other tastes (e.g., salt).
    • Ashwagandha and exercise

      • In this randomized controlled trial in physically active adults starting a resistance training program, supplementing with ashwagandha didn’t have much of an effect on muscle size or strength, but it improved VO2max, a measure of aerobic fitness.
    • Going beyond salt restriction to reduce blood pressure

      • In this randomized controlled trial in adults with high blood pressure, salt restriction led to greater improvements in blood pressure and markers of cardiometabolic health when combined with the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension Diet or the Mediterranean diet.
