    Medications for IBS-D broadly include antidiarrheals, antispasmodics, and antidepressants. They work by reducing or normalizing intestinal motility (organized contractions of the digestive tract) and water content in the bowel. In some cases, antibiotics are prescribed to treat an underlying infection or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).[1]
