    MAFLD (metabolic-associated fatty liver disease­­; formerly nonalcoholic fatty liver disease) is diagnosed when a person has fat accumulation in the liver (evidenced by biopsy, imaging, or blood biomarkers) and overweight, obesity, type 2 diabetes, or two metabolic risk abnormalities.
