Peri-implant diseases are dental conditions that can occur in people with a dental implant. They are caused by the accumulation of microbial plaque around the implant. The most common conditions include peri-implant mucositis (inflammation in the soft tissue surrounding the implant) and peri-implantitis (inflammation that affects both soft and hard tissue, potentially leading to bone loss). Signs and symptoms include gum swelling, redness, and bleeding on probing.
Peri-implant diseases falls under the Oral Health category.
