Intermittent dieting is a strategy that involves taking “breaks” from chronic caloric restriction. During these breaks, energy intake is increased to the amount needed to maintain body weight or slightly more. The duration of the break can range from 1–3 days (a refeed) up to several weeks (a diet break).
