Many individuals with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) believe that diet affects their symptoms, and a low starch diet was suggested to reduce Klebsiella bacteria linked to spondyloarthritis. Research indicates that this diet can effectively manage AS by decreasing disease activity and reliance on nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Although 78% of individuals with AS believe diet influences their symptoms, individual preferences and sensitivities vary. A low starch diet has been proposed to reduce Klebsiella bacteria, which has been implicated in triggering spondyloarthritis activity. Research suggests the diet is effective for AS management, and results in reductions of disease activity and reliance on NSAIDs.[1]
