Restrictive diets do not show benefits for people with ulcerative colitis and may lead to nutritional deficiencies. Although the low-FODMAP diet may alleviate some symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease, it does not enhance stool consistency or decrease mucosal inflammation.

There is no evidence that people with UC benefit from restrictive diets, and long-term use may result in nutritional deficiencies.[1] Although some evidence suggests that the low-FODMAP diet can help reduce symptoms of IBD, it does not improve stool consistency or reduce mucosal inflammation.[2]
