What is kratom?

Kratom is an evergreen tree native to Southeast Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc.), with dose-dependent sedating and stimulant effects. It is typically consumed as tea or powder. Although kratom leaves have been used traditionally for hundreds of years, research on its safety and efficacy is limited.^[1]
