In vivo (Latin for “within the living”) refers to studies that are done in living organisms, either humans or animals.

In vivo studies often build upon results found in in vitro studies and test whether their results can extend to whole organisms. Many promising effects found from in vitro experiments don’t actually pan out in vivo.
