3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), commonly known as “ecstacy”, is a psychoactive drug first synthesized in 1912 by the German pharmaceutical company Merck. MDMA works by stimulating the release of neurotransmitters, such as dopamine and serotonin, in the brain.
