Pregnancy and lactation info for Fish Oil

    Pregnancy
    Caution

Omega-3 fatty acids will likely not harm the fetus and are safe to consume during pregnancy. However, there is little human data concerning the optimal dosing or the safety of high dosing during pregnancy.[94][95] Caution is advised for dosing above the generally-recognized-as-safe dosage of three grams of combined EPA and DHA daily.

Limited, observational evidence suggests that the use of fish oil supplements is correlated with an increased risk of severe bleeding after giving birth. However, a clear causal link has not been established. It may be advisable to discontinue fish oil supplementation during the third trimester to reduce this risk.[96]

    Lactation
    Safe

Omega-3 fatty acids are safe for use during breastfeeding.[97] The recommended dosage is 1,000 mg daily of combined EPA and DHA.[94][97]
