The studies were conducted in China, Indonesia, and Iran. The various okra interventions consisted of 3 pieces of fresh okra in water, 125 milligrams of okra extract, 3 to 10 grams of okra powder, or 20 grams of dried okra tea. The study duration ranged from 2 weeks to 3 months.

Okra improved fasting blood glucose (−21.7 mg/dL) and HbA1c (−0.42%), compared to a placebo.

According to subgroup analyses, these benefits were observed in studies that were more than 2 months long.

There were no differences between the groups for body weight, HOMA-IR, or insulin.
