The trials used vitamin D doses ranging from 300 IU to 7,124 IU per day, and the treatment durations ranged from 6 weeks to 3 years.

All of the participants were women with overweight and obesity. However, some studies also included participants with other conditions, such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, polycystic ovary syndrome, type 2 diabetes, or participants without other known health conditions.

Supplementation with vitamin D reduced triglycerides (−6.1 mg/dL) and total cholesterol (−4.5 mg/dL) and increased HDL-cholesterol (+1.5 mg/dL). However, there was no effect on LDL-cholesterol.
