    Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms may begin immediately or many years after a traumatic event. Common symptoms include intrusive thoughts and reexperiencing (“flashbacks”); sleep difficulties and nightmares; avoidance; and emotional and physical dysregulation.
