In this meta-analysis of observational studies, risk factors for Barrett’s esophagus (a potentially precancerous condition) included gastric reflux, tobacco smoking, and alcohol consumption. Additionally, tobacco smoking was a risk factor for esophageal adenocarcinoma, a type of cancer.
