There is currently insufficient evidence to confirm that supplementation with red yeast rice promotes bone health; animal studies have shown some positive effects on bone formation that have not been validated in humans. Additionally, although observational studies suggest that statins may reduce fracture risk, randomized controlled trials have not consistently shown an effect on bone mineral density.

There is currently a lack of evidence to suggest that RYR supplementation promotes bone health. In animal studies, RYR seems to increase the proliferation of osteoblasts (cells involved in bone formation), increase alkaline phosphatase, and increase bone mineral density.[1] However, these effects have not been validated in human clinical trials. Interestingly, observational research on statin medications suggests that statin therapy is associated with a reduced risk of fractures, but the few randomized controlled trials that have been done have generally not found an effect of statins on bone mineral density.[2]
