Major adverse cardiac events (MACE), also known as major adverse cardiovascular events, is an umbrella term that represents a variety of severe cardiovascular outcomes. There is no standardized definition of MACE and it varies between studies, but it can include nonfatal heart attack, nonfatal stroke, cardiovascular mortality, all-cause mortality, unstable angina, heart failure, and unplanned coronary revascularization. MACE is used as a composite endpoint in research to help evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention in preventing serious cardiovascular events.
